Practicing for Emergencies

During the course of a school year, we are mandated to practice 10 fire drills, 2 lockdown drills and 1 tornado drill to prepare our students in the event there is an emergency. Staff will have reviewed procedures with children before emergency measures practices take place. We will only notify home in the event of a real crisis. We held our second lockdown practice of the year today. Please do not hesitate to call the school if you need any clarification.

EARTH MONTH

Thank you to all students and adults who helped this month with cleaning our playground, participating in Lights Out Canada and We Are Silent Days, and with planning ways we can all contribute to making this world a better place.

LIGHTS OUT

Lights Out Canada

On Wednesday, April 22, 2015 Stevenson will be participating in Lights Out Canada.

By participating in Lights Out, we will be joining other engaged youth and educators across Canada who want to reduce their ecological footprint. It is our generation that will be most affected by global warming and it is up to us to start changing our habits now so that we will have a healthy earth in the future.

The idea behind Lights Out is that small changes add up to make a big difference. It is within all of our power to commit to making those small changes together.

Participating in Lights Out World is not a daunting task. The Lights Out Team has compiled step-by-step instructions and comprehensive lesson plans – the tools you need to make Lights Out a success.

You can also participate at home. Talk as a family about how you can save energy around the home.

Our April Assembly will be on Wednesday, April 15 at 9AM in the Gym.
We invite you to join in our second "APP Smackdown" of the year. This is where we share educational apps we like and then try them out. We will be working in our House Groups.

HAPPY SPRING

We had a busy first week back after spring break! It looks like our spring weather might finally be here! You may hear your children talking about spending more time outdoors at school. That's because we believe there is a lot of learning that can happen outdoors. We have been challenging ourselves to integrate our curriculum with nature and play-based learning in our school. Watch for blog, Twitter, or Instagram posts from our various classrooms about our spring learning.

Welcome Back

This week at school:
The school is open on Monday, April 6.
Discovery Children's Centre is closed on Monday for an Inservice Day.

Tuesday is an Early Dismissal Day at 3:10pm.

For our WJHA players, hockey resumes on Thursday this week. There is no more after-school hockey on Mondays for this school year.
If your child is not in the hockey program, ask him/her what exciting things they do on "Project Thursdays" at Stevenson!
