On
February 1, Stevenson School will be
participating in our second annual “Global School Play Day”. This will be a day
for unstructured, student-initiated play. Students will still come to school
for a regular length of school day. On this day, students may bring items they
wish to play with. This is to be a day to promote active and imaginative play.
You decide what items you are willing to have your child bring to school such
as board games, dolls, Lego, blocks, trucks, cars, racetracks,
playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, social games
(charades, Pictionary, etc.) The only restrictions: They must
bring toys that do NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices. Help your
child choose a few toys to bring to school to share. Students will also be free to use
play items provided by the school. Students are familiar with what kinds of
toys, games, and activities we have.
Please
go to the Global School Play Day website for more information: www.globalschoolplayday.com . Research shows that we
learn more deeply when we are playing. Feel free to share this with your
family, friends, and work places. Challenge other adults to try this challenge
too. The more we play, the better we become. We are never too old to play.
You
are welcome to join us for part of the day or the whole day if you can. Please
contact your child’s teacher to find out how you can help. Follow along with us
on our blogs, Twitter and Instagram that day using #GSPD. Our address is
@stevensonelem.
Play
is the Way,
