Carehome Concert Coming Soon

As we finish up the year, we are celebrating with some very special people in our community.  Calvary Place Carehome is coming to Stevenson on Monday, June 22 and we are going to sing songs, play our instruments and perform dances for them.  Families are welcome to join us.  10:30-11:30am.

CLASS PLACEMENTS

The purpose of the Class Placement Process is to maximize learning and teaching opportunities for all students and teachers by constructing balanced classes. 

The class creation process is a complex one involving the gathering of information about student needs and the making of collaborative decisions from staff and administrative teams about student placement in classes. 

Factors considered are academic progress, individual learning styles, interactions between classmates, specific learning needs in different areas, gender balance, and information provided by the current teachers, child, and parents.

Placing students is not an easy task and the professionals in our school invest a great deal of time and thought into the process. Thank you for your support as we strive to create the best possible learning environment for all of the students at Stevenson School.

Public Meeting: Proposed Middle School Reorganization
7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate
The Board of Trustees of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division has reviewed the most recent enrollment projections provided by the senior administration. The projections indicate that the current trend of increased enrollment in French Immersion will continue into the future.
The Senior Administration has recommended that the Board re-organize Ness Middle School and École Golden Gate School to accommodate a French milieu School at the Ness Middle School site. This would mean that Golden Gate would become an English track Middle School. The Board has asked the senior administration to prepare a full report providing the rationale for such a re-organization and the implications for student programs. The Board would like to consult with the public before making a decision regarding this proposed reorganization and share the administrative report with you.
Please come out to the public meeting to express your support or concerns for such an initiative. 

FAMILY BBQ

Thank you to our wonderful Parent Council for hosting another successful BBQ! Also thank you to all the parents and students who volunteered during the evening. It is so nice to get our community together!

Truth and Reconciliation

Last week, our Grade 4/5 students had a guest speaker, April Waters, come speak to them about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

In an act of empathy, these students participated in making a Heart Garden on our front lawn with messages of hope and compassion for those affected by the Indian Residential Schools experience. #TRC2015
